What is body dysmorphia?

This might be a sensitive topic for some, I have kind of experienced this along with a lot of others. Maybe even you.

Body dysmorphic disorder is obsessive thinking about a flaw on a specific part of your face or body that is often imagined or, if present, exaggerated in your mind and hardly noticeable to anyone else.

It’s mostly common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women. Which isn’t a surprise in the world we live in today with social media, photoshop and marketing the way it is.

“Remember, people allow themselves to feel like this. We can control these feelings.”

I wouldn’t say I had/have Body Dysmorphic. But, the industry and sport I’m involved in. It can cause you to have some of the systems and self-doubt. Going from low body fat and competing on stage to higher body fat to grow muscle, can be a bit psychological head fuck! “Sorry for my French”
This all comes down to mindset. Knowing your goals, your why, thinking long term and finally believing in yourself which a lot, A LOT of people lack.

Which is why I came into the industry. To help as many people as possible build the body they thought wasn’t possible, to create a new and healthy lifestyle for them.

What can I do to help myself?

  1. Exercise like yoga or weight training.

  2. Write a food diary

  3. Produce a to-do list, to keep you productive and moving forward in the direction you want your future to be.

  4. Music, books or audiobooks.

  5. Building a routine that enables looking forward and steps of progress but also allows time to just do you.

Take time to look after yourself, eating well and doing something you enjoy, can help to support your recovery and improve your quality of life.
